Ours is a provenance story breeding all animals here at Lake Farm with a mission to develop a breeding herd as good as anything in the world. All the beef we sell has been bred on the property, and we sell our processed beef and gourmet pies to showcase the cattle we are raising. We see our beef and pie operations starting right back to when we choose the best bull semen to AI or ET our cattle to produce outstanding progeny. We are looking for animals with great carcasses, high marbling large eye muscle area, and, above all else, extreme docility.
BUT more important than all of this our greatest efforts are to ensure our cattle live in an idyllic, peaceful environment we have no dogs and have a great life in the short time they are here. We even make sure that when our cattle go off on their fateful day they always go in twos or threes, so it’s as stress free as possible. NZ Lamb and Beef run an annual competition to find the best steak in New Zealand. Only a small number of facilities are licensed to process beef from the many entries, and the steaks taken are tested for tenderness and then go through a series of taste tests to conclude with a grand final the best 20 steaks in the country.
Now consumers know exactly where the meat comes from in their pies, and trust that the beef is, simply, unbeatable. So we have developed some pretty special recipes using both diced beef and prime mince

We found a locally produced Fresh Zealand cheese made in the customary Gorgonzola style yummy!. We have selected four cheeses that we feel compliment the flavors of our pies. Barry Bay Peppered Havarti You can’t beat some melting Havarti in a steak sandwich, and it’s the same in our pies especially when it’s peppered.
Customary Pies Our customers purchase pies from Lake farm because they trust the source and love the comfort of wise what’s in our pies. The New Zealand Cheese Society created the NZ Champions of Cheese Awards to recognize the finest of Fresh Zealand’s artisan cheese makers, and the superb cheeses that are made in Fresh Zealand. We also crossbreed some of our Angus with Italian Piedmontese cattle for excess tenderness and healthiness. From the start of our pie venture, we always wanted to put some special cheeses in our pies, and with cheese flavors which matched our pie flavors.
We have worn their Tasty Gouda in our mince and cheese pie since we started, so we were elated for them to triumph a Gold Medal in these years NZ Champions of Cheese Competition. We recommend heating the pies in a preheated oven degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
